OU may recall that in Psalm 131:1 David wrote that his "heart was not haughty, nor his eyes lofty: neither did he exercise himself in great matters, or in things too high for him." He knew his humble place. However, humility does not demand shallowness. So, fittingly, here we read that David spent time musing on the work of God's hands (Psalm 143:5). Now, to muse is to think deeply and seriously... at least as deeply and as seriously as our particular intellect, personality and circumstance will allow.
There is a Don Moen chorus that says, "Think about His love. Think about His goodness. Think about His grace..." Well, that was what David was doing. He was thinking about God. We should do it too. Meditate for a while on how faithful God has been to us. Consider His righteousness. Ruminate on His holiness. Remember your former interactions with your Maker. Worship Him with demonstration as you learn to love Him with your mind (Luke 10:27). Let us develop a holy craving for His presence. Eagerly anticipate an infusion of divine truth and providential direction (Psalm 81:10 & Deuteronomy 4:29). Expect deliverance. Run toward God. Listen to Him teach. Follow Him. Receive the life He gives and serve Him vigorously with it. God's Spirit is good (Psalm 143:10). Think about that for a while. Commune with yourself (Psalm 77:6), and make sure that God is the subject matter. Ponder His great actions. Do some spiritual musing.
