OME people love to walk... or, shall we say hike. Walking can indeed be therapeutic, healthy and even energizing. Of course, for some people it is the main means of locomotion, and for others not even a possibility. But for one who walks, it is only safe to walk when one can see where one is stepping. Walking in the dark, on the other hand, can be very dangerous (John 11:9-10 & 12:35). Isaiah 2:3 & 5 speak plainly of the importance of walking with God; walking in His paths and in His light.
The Jews of Isaiah's day were not looking to the Lord of heaven for their direction and leadership. They were following the heathen around them and doing what their own heart desired and designed, but God was not part of their philosophical perspective. He was not part of their day-to-day plan. They were willfully leaving Him out. We know of course that God is involved even when we try to go on without Him. His involvement is different; nonetheless, His immanence is sure.
To see what it means to walk with the Lord, perhaps the best thing to do is to look into the future and to see what things will be like during the kingdom of Christ when He will rule in person from a throne in Jerusalem. We know that it will be a time of unadulterated peace (Isaiah 2:4). Also, it is certain that humility will abound (Isaiah 2:11-17). Spiritual truth will dominate (Isaiah 2:18-20). A proper respect for God will be common (Isaiah 2:21). Humanistic foolishness will cease (Isaiah 2:22).
