FREQUENTLY say that
there is no such thing as a good person.
And, I stand by that. I base that
statement on Psalm 14:3, 53:3 & Romans 3:12. What I always mean is that nobody is
naturally good. As compared to God's
standard of goodness, none of us can even make the meter move. The heart of every man is deceitful,
depraved, desperately wicked, debauched and dead (Romans 7:18). However, when a man (through God's grace)
chooses to humbly pay the price and do a good thing, God notices (Acts 10:35
& Proverbs 12:2). We should never
assume that God expects nothing from us JUST because we are fallen
creatures. Such is simply not the
case. He demands perfection, holiness,
virtue, righteousness, goodness and integrity.
The good news is that He has given us His Spirit and His Word in order
to make this kind of a lifestyle a possibility.
Without His intervening grace, the demand might as well be that we
tunnel to China with a plastic spoon or jump over the moon on a pogo
stick. We are simply not capable of being
good without an infusion of God's goodness.
With it, nothing is impossible.
