OD has a specific standard, which He has set, beside which
He evaluates every man's thoughts and words.
Moreover, the vital importance of the condition of a man's spiritual
heart, particularly as evidenced by his speech, cannot possibly be
overstated. In fact, Jesus tied these
two things together inextricably in Luke 6:45.
There is no use isolating one to the ignoring of the other. My heart and my speech are never unrelated
Concerning how we think, the most important thing to
remember is that God is aware of our every thought, whether uttered or subdued
(Proverbs 15:3 & 11, Psalm 139:4 & 1st Samuel 16:7). Constantly reminding ourselves of this truth should
affect how tightly we hold the reigns of our mind and our tongue. Also, not only does God know, He cares! Not only does He care, He is ready, willing
and able to do something about the thinking and the uttering which He finds in
us (Proverbs 15:9). It behooves us to be
circumspect in both cases.
How is your thought life?
2nd Corinthians 10:5 tells us that we do have volitional
power concerning what we think. The mind
may be a wild & vicious animal, but it still has instincts, passions &
sensitivities that make it very trainable.
Our brain is a deadly and venomous beast. But by God's grace, we can have the very mind
of Christ (1st Corinthians 2:16 & Philippians 2:5). Evaluate your thinker today.
