HE issue here is none other than the serious dangers
associated with loose women. Wild women
are fools (Proverbs 2:16 & 17). Of
course, if we men chase wild women, we are equally as foolish. Blame flows in both directions when it comes
to the sins of fornication and adultery.
That having been said, in this case, the passage at hand is written to a
young man, so the warning is aimed at him.
The danger is feminine beauty misused and abused. Not that there is anything wrong with
feminine beauty. Originally, God only
declared humanity to be good after he had brought Eve to Adam. Proverbs 5:19 indicates clearly that God
intended for men to enjoy the intimate pleasures of sexuality in this life...
but only with a wife (Hebrews 13:4).
Stepping outside of God's parameters in this area not only offends God,
but it's also self-destructive (1st Cor. 6:18).
Now, we read sections of the Scripture like this one and we
think rightly that it speaks of prostitutes.
But of course, there are seductive women who would never think of simply
prostituting themselves to strange men for wads of money, but who certainly
proposition men they know in subtle and suggestive ways and are therefore very
accurately described in Proverbs 5:3.
This kind of woman is sometimes difficult to single out because (in the
words of Solomon)" ...her ways are moveable..." (Proverbs 5:6). The only safe protection from this strange
woman is to run as far away from her as you can (Proverbs 5:8 & Genesis
39:12). No normal man is a match for
feminine beauty used deviously. Unless
you and I are much wiser than Solomon, stronger than Samson, more devoted than
David and more faithful than Abraham, we too can fall.
