HROUGHOUT the Bible there are
golden nuggets and fine gems that are destined to be found by faithful miners;
verses that are packed with hope for believers. Jeremiah 33:3 is one such
precious gem, "Call unto Me, and I
will answer you, and show you great and
mighty things, which you know not." What exactly is this verse
teaching? For sure, it is a reminder that even the ideas that come from our
greatest experiences and most imaginative creativity can't compare with what
our God is actually capable of doing. To put it into words is to quantify the
unquantifiable and to define the indefinable, but let's give it a shot anyway.
God is able to bring quick
destruction upon the very strong. God is able to build that which has been
utterly destroyed. God is even able to wash the sin stains from the fabric of
humanity. God is able to make the obscure exceedingly famous. God is able to
populate cities that have been desolate and deserted. God is able to restore
power to a family that has been without it for decades, centuries... or even
millennia (Jeremiah 33:15). God is able to make the most dangerous neighborhood
a safe place to live. God is able to replace the bloody reputation of a guilty
city with a new name; a name for purity and righteousness. God is able to make
"forever" promises, and actually keep them (Genesis 18:14).
