E have seen all too fully what a world full of unrighteous
men looks like. Now, someday Jesus Christ will rule and reign on this earth.
When He does, the whole world will submit to His will – at least
outwardly. But among the Jews things
will even be better than that. There will be full persuasion and genuine faith
in Israel in those days (Romans 11:26). Such is the claim of Isaiah 60:21, "Thy people also shall be all
righteous..." My, that will be a glorious day! It will be a day of
light.
That wonderful day will be preceded by a time of thick
darkness, during the days of Jacob's trouble (Jeremiah 30:7 & Isaiah 60:2).
But, when the Tribulation Period does end, the Jews will be in a new situation.
Rather than being harassed and harangued by the nations, they will be respected
and sought after. In those days, a nation of righteous Jews will rule the
earth. They will fill all of the land that was originally promised to the
patriarchs. Their God will be recognized for who He really is: the only living
God. It will be a time of such material prosperity that material things will be
trivial indeed. In other words, years of God's wrath against the Jews will give
way to an eternity of favor and mercy (vs. 10). Jerusalem will be a place of
absolute peace and security (vs. 11). In fact, Jerusalem will be the capital of
the whole world (vs. 12). During the
Millennial Reign of Christ, the work of His hands will bring glory to His name everywhere
(vs. 21), because, the righteous nation Israel – willingly humble and holy – will
inherit the earth. What we're talking
about here is the kingdom of God. In fact, a few of the descriptions in this
chapter actually parallel with descriptions of heaven in Revelation 21 & 22
(compare Isaiah 60:3, 11, 19 & 20 to Revelation 21:23-25).
