Friday - 1st Chronicles 3 - Ah, David

George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson… didn't you ever have to memorize the names of the presidents of the United States in order? Basically, this is what we have here: a list of the kings of Judah. This part of the list runs from David through Jehoiakim, Jeconiah and Zedekiah (the last kings before the exile of the nation). Notice also that some of David's other descendants are listed. Which is significant.  For example, in Luke 3:31 (in Mary's genealogy) we discover that Jesus was a descendant of Nathan, who was a son of David. Nathan was Solomon's brother. So, we find by studying these various genealogies that both Joseph and Mary were the product of the union of David and Bathsheba.
