Saturday - Deuteronomy 30 - Choose Life

God anticipated the failure of His own people... of course. God knows everything. And, since He knows everything, He also knew that they would repent and return to Him in obedience (Deuteronomy 30:2). So, He assured them that when they returned to Him, then He would return to   them.

In His offer of blessings, God (through Moses) made some truly glorious statements. There are 2 most excellent verses here: (Deuteronomy 30:6 & 14).  Now, when you take these 2 verses in the context of this whole chapter and its emphasis on options and prerogatives, their significance stands out even more. Yes, God has given every man a choice (Deuteronomy 30:15 & 19). Yet, without His invitation, His wooing influence, His convicting and convincing presence, His operation, His revelation, His intervention... in short, His grace... none of us would EVER have a chance of making the right decision (Philippians 2 :13). It is imperative that we all realize that God had commanded for the people to circumcise their own hearts (Deuteronomy 10:16), but, no surprise, God promises to do for them what they can't and won't do for themselves. That's salvation!  That's redemption!  That's grace!  That's our Savior!  That's His way.  We should focus on our responsibility and choose life.  God can and will take care of His end of the bargain, every time and without our help, and regardless of our lack of understanding concerning His ways.
