Saturday - Judges 2 - The Next Generation

In our modern context, the phrase "next generation" carries with it the idea of improvement; progress. The next generation in the technological development of cellular phones, televisions, game systems, etc. promises things faster and stronger... at least, that is the intended implication. Things should've been like that in Israel. The generation that followed after Joshua should have been better and stronger than the one before it... after all, the nation under Joshua had a better track record than their fathers had earned under Moses, right? So, improvement should have continued. And, you know what? It could have continued! But, it didn't. When the people had settled into their new land they neglected 2 primary things. They didn't finish the job God had given them, and they didn't instruct their children adequately.  So, sadly we read in Judges 2:10 that when the Jews who had crossed the Jordan River had passed away, "there arose another generation after them, which knew not the LORD..."
